CLIENTS & APPLICATIONS

Case profile:

Case Profile: Luss Wastewater Treatment Works

Client: Scottish Water

Project Background

The village of LUSS is a popular tourist attraction located on the banks of Loch Lomond. From spring and throughout the summer month's sightseers and visitors numbering up to 1500 per day come to the area to take in the views and peaceful surroundings. Throughout the winter months, however the remaining local population only amounts to circa 350 people. The historical fluctuation has been a major problem to the local water authority, and a solution has been sought to deal with this recurring incident .

Project Scope

Provide a solution to effectively treat a fluctuation load on the existing sewage treatment works and give a final effluent quality suitable for discharge into the Loch.

Scope of Work

Pollution Control supplied a submerged media biological treatment plant to take on the additional load during the summer months and which was easily sized down to give satisfactory service during the winter months.
- The solution accepted was the provision of tandem tanks each capable of servicing effluent typical to 500 PE.
- The units were installed on a prepared concrete base 10 x 3 metres.
- Submersible duty/standby pumps were lowered into a suitable sump located at a post gross solids removal point and a combined discharge pipe was supplied to divert the outflow to the existing clarification tanks.
- Further provision was made to bring the existing ASP back in-stream in the event of additional heavy loading.
- For lower flow requirements during the winter months, one of the treatment tanks can be isolated and flushed out ready for the next holiday season.

Equipment Supplied

- 2 x P-50 (500) Submerged Aerated Filter Tanks
- 1 x Centrifugal air blower with acoustic enclosure
- 1 x Control panel with 2 combined pump panel and blower controls
- 2 x Submersible lift pumps with float switches and depth adjustment
- Interface pump to tanks pipe work

Once delivered, the system was fully installed and commissioned in two days.
