CLIENTS & APPLICATIONS
Case profile:
Case Profile: Leachate lagoon aeration
Client: Viridor Landfill C/o A.E.R.C Consultants
Project Background
Landfill companies are under increasing pressure to meet legislation criteria when discharging leachate/effluent, which collects in their settlement lagoons. The major problem affecting Viridor land fill was high pH levels which were unacceptable.
Project Scope
To provide an aeration system which could accommodate fluctuating lagoon levels and maintain a neutral pH level via an aeration process.
Scope of Work
Pollution Control supplied a removable fine bubble diffused air system, fitted to floatation devices which would allow continuous aeration. The system which needed to be installed in an open field environment required some flexibility to optimise the air delivery required and the capability of providing air to either one of two lagoons, or both.
To locate the floating aeration pontoons, concert rafts with adjustable height securing poles were installed and a good concrete base was provided for the blower and control housing. Power was supplied via a mobile generator and a bunded fuel store was manufactured & installed. To maintain level air distribution throughout, the air system provided was a tubular construction suspended on weights with a balanced air distribution via a hollow cross arrangement.
Equipment Supplied
- 6 x 4 of tubular diffusers with silicone membranes
attached to pontoon float devises and secured by SS
wire rope to fixed poles
- Control enclosure with duty standby blowers,
automated control panel, manifolds and pipe work
- Bunded fuel storage tank and a hired generator
Installation
The concrete plinths and bases were constructed a week prior to the equipment installation. The equipment above was installed and commissioned in 2 days.
Results
The site now maintains acceptable pH levels and the hire generator has been replaced by a permanent unit.
